This reader is targeted towards students who already have some background in Uyghur, or in Uzbek, Turkish or any of Turkic languages. This book can help students progress from an intermediate understanding of Uyghur to one of a higher level.
The reader consists of 45 selections taken from books, newspapers published in Kazakhstan, and Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, and from web sites of news agencies. Topics that cover those selections include customs, daily life, economic, education, geographic, history, language, literature, political, religion, socio-cultural circumstances in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region. Students will be introduced to both simple and complex phrases of the language and its methods of expression and thought while gaining a basic understanding of the Uyghur nationality as a whole. Each selection is followed by a list of important grammatical suffixes, interesting words, notes on people and places, and various cutural, historical, and socio-political terms.
A dictionary-style glossary at the end of the book consists approximately 3,000 words.
