Published in this book are some texts in the language of Crimean Roma, This ethnic community had formed on the territory of the then Crimean Khanate as early as before the 17th century.
The texts present transcripts of stories recorded by the book's compiler during field studies conducted in 2002—2003 in the Krasnodar region of Russia. All stories were told by Crimean Roma native speakers. The stories deal with variety of subjects such as living in a Gypsy encampment at about 1950, some old-time Roma healing techniques, or Gypsy blacksmith at work. Other texts include fairy-tales, anecdotes and short stories. All texts are supplied with translations which the compiler did so as to render the original language into Russian as accurately as possible.
The book also contains essays on following topics:
a) source materials on Crimean Roma people's history and language;
b) history of Crimean Roma people;
c) history of Crimean Roma language;
d) traditional trades and occupations of Crimean Roma;
e) commentaries to the texts published in the book.
