Введение в гэльский (шотландский) язык.
A great many people have felt, at one time or another, that they would like to lea to speak Scottish Gaelic. Far fewer people, however, seem to get round to doing anything about it, and that is a great pity. Often finding the time can be a problem, or perhaps you've heard that Gaelic is very difficult, and you think you'd never cope with the grammar. Few languages are entirely free from complications, and it is true that Gaelic isn't always straightforward, but if you are prepared to set aside a reasonable amount of your time to work on your Gaelic, you'll find it's not as hard as you perhaps imagined.
This little book is a simple introduction to the language. It is not grammar orientated, though grammatical explanations will be given when they help us fully understand a phrase, and use it correctly in conversation. Acquiring an in-depth knowledge of Gaelic grammar though is not the aim of this book. It's really a travel phrase book, similar in style to other European language courses, designed to help you survive in the sorts of situations you're likely to encounter as a traveller. The language content then is presented in the form of short dialogues, which you can listen to, and practise with the tape, as you read them here.
As with leaing any new language, practice is very important. Listen to the tape as much as you can, and spend time over the little exercises at the end of each chapter. If you can, try to visit a Gaelic speaking area. This is when you'll see the benefits of all the work you've put in.
Note: All Gaelic words, phrases and sentences have been printed in italics to help you find them and lea them more easily.
