Заключение: «Конец – делу венец»

Мы подошли к концу нашей работы над фразеологизмами современного

русского языка, ведь «начиная дело, о конце помышляй!». Конечно, данная работа

не претендует на составление исчерпывающего перечня русских фразеологизмов. Как

говорится, этот список «на век протянется, на всякого достанется».

Но «мал почин, да дорог». Мы надеемся, что ознакомившись с нашей

работой, вы не только сможете понять приводимый ниже текст, но и по

достоинству оцените богатство и образность его словесной формы.

«Он всегда садился между двух стульев,

как ему аукали, так он и откликался,

частенько плевал в колодец,

нападал на своих, чтобы чужие боялись,

от дождя прятался в воде,

ковал, когда остывало,

ловил в небе журавля,

прикидывался тихоней,

имел привычку бормотать себе под нос,

возвращался к своим баранам,

перескакивал из пятого на десятое,

переливал из пустого в порожнее,

марал бумагу,

не зная броду, совался в воду,

оставался на бобах,

с одного вола драл две шкуры,

дурачком прикидывался,

а в дураках оставлял других,

прыгал выше головы,

черпал воду решетом,

клевал по зëрнышку,

дарëному коню не смотрел в зубы,

начинал за здравие, а кончал за упокой,

в бочку дëгтя подливал ложку меду,

считал, что если бы да кабы у него во рту росли бы бобы, то был бы

не рот, а целый огород,

по одëжке протягивал ножки,

всегда платил той же монетой,

на всë чихал с высокой колокольни

и каждое утро драл козла.»

Пробуйте – «терпенье и труд всë перетрут»; овладевайте – «не боги горшки

обжигают»; постигайте – «красную речь красно́ и слушать» и учитесь, ведь

АВГИЕВЫ КОНЮШНИ (lit., plural only) – a very dirty or cluttered place –

Augean stables, gigantic (hopeless, dire) mess.

< From the name of Augeas, legendary king of Elis, whose stables (which

sheltered 3000 oxen) had not been cleaned for thirty years. Cleaning the Augean stables

was one of the twelve labors of Hercules.

A КОРОЛЬ-ТО ГОЛЫЙ!; ГОЛЫЙ КОРОЛЬ (used as indep. sent.) –– a

person whose scholarly reputation, authority in some field etc. turns out to be completely

ungrounded, a theory that turns out to be false etc. – but the emperor has nothing on at

all!; the emperor has (или wears) no clothes; an emperor without (any) clothes; eye-

wash.

АЛЬМА МАТЕР – In modern times it is used to refer to the university or

college a person attends or attended: alma mater

< From Latin for “nourishing mother”. It was used in ancient Rome as a title for

the mother goddess, and in Medieval Christianity for the Virgin Mary. This term is taken

from the motto ("Alma Mater Studiorum") of the oldest European continually operating

degree-granting university, the University of Bologna, in Italy, founded in A.D. 1088,

and located in the city of Bologna.

that is particularly weak or vulnerable – Achilles heel

< From the Greek legend of Achilles, whose heel was the only vulnerable poit on

his body.

БАБЬЕ ЛЕТО (sing. only) – warms days in early autumn: Indian summer

БАБУШКА (ЕЩЁ) НАДВОЕ СКАЗАЛА (coll., this form only) – it is yet

unknown whether the event in question will happen or not (usually the implication is that

it will not happen): there is no telling just yet; it remains to be seen; it’s anybody’s

guess; that’s an open questions; it could go either way; we’ll have to wait and see.

from those around him, unlike all the rest: be the odd man (one) out; seems to be out of

place; to stand out like a sore thumb; white elephant

БЕЛОКУРАЯ БЕСТИЯ (lit., iron.) – Allegorically: about the hot follower

(German) of the theory of the racial or national superiority based on vulgar interpretation

of ideas of F. Nietzsche: the "blond beast".

БЕЛОЕ ПЯТНО (often plural) – 1. often на карте, на земле an unmapped or

unexplored territory: blank, the white spot, blank spot (on the map); uncharted area.

2. (в чем) an unexplored problem, undecided question: blank, unsolved problem; gap

in one’s knowledge (of sth.)

БЕСПРОБУДНОЕ ПЬЯНСТВО – unrestrained drinking

БЕСПРОБУДНЫЙ СОН – deep (heavy) sleep

БИТЬ БАКЛУШИ coll., disapprov. – to be idle, do nothing: loiter away;

twiddle one’s thumbs; fritter away the someone time; kill time.

< «Баклуши», small chunk of wood chopped from large block, were once

commonly used to make wooden object. Chopping off chunks was considered an easy

job.

БИТЬ РУБЛЁМ кого (coll., human.) – to penalize someone financially for

failing to work up to the required standard, for working poorly or making mistakes: hit

someone in his pocket; to fine some one; dock someone

БЛАГИМ МАТОМ кричать, орать, вопить и т.д. (highly coll.) – (to shout,

yell etc.) very loudly, furiously: (shout) at the top of one’s voice (lungs); (yell, shout,

heavens, gracious, grief)!; goodness gracious!; God Almighty!; oh, Lord!

БОК О´ БОК; О´ БОК (both coll., these forms only; the resulting phrase is

adverb) – 1. с кем-чем идти, ехать, стоять,находиться и т.д. – next to each other;

right beside (someone or something): side by side (with); alongside (of); abreast;

2. с кем жить, работать, воевать и т.д. – (of people only) to live, to work, to

fight etc. together: side by side (with); shoulder to shoulder (with); cheek by jowl

(with).

БОЛЕЕ ИЛИ МЕНЕЕ – somewhat, relatively (but not completely); to a

relatively large extent – more or less

БРАЗДЫ ПРАВЛЕНИЯ (elevated, occasionally, humor.) – governing power,

rule, leadership: the rains of government (of power)

БРАТЬ / ВЗЯТЬ В РУКИ кого (human.) – to bring someone under one’s

control, make someone obey: take something in hand, bring someone into line

БУРЧАТЬ (БОРМОТАТЬ, БУБНИТЬ) СЕБЕ ПОД НОС (coll., human.) -

to mumble, mutter very quietly, almost inaudibly: mutter under / below one’s breath ;

mumble to oneself; mumble into one’s beard

БЫЛА НЕ БЫЛА (coll.) – (used to express one’s resolve to do something

risky – usually after some hesitation – in the hope of achieving success) – whatever
