â³äáóâàºòüñÿ â ìîìåíò ìîâëåííÿ: I am reading now.  ß ÷èòàþ çàðàç.

2. Present Continuous âæèâàºòüñÿ äëÿ âèðàæåííÿ òðèâàëî¿ ä³¿, ùî

â³äáóâàºòüñÿ â ïåâíèé ïåð³îä òåïåð³øíüîãî ÷àñó, õî÷ ³ íå îáîâÿçêî-

âî â ìîìåíò ìîâëåííÿ:

Hes studying at the preparatory courses this year.  Öüîãî ðîêó â³í

â÷èòüñÿ íà ï³äãîòîâ÷èõ êóðñàõ.

3. Present Continuous âæèâàºòüñÿ äëÿ âèðàæåííÿ çàïëàíîâàíî¿

Present Continuous óòâîðþºòüñÿ ç äîïîì³æíîãî ä³ºñëîâà to be â òå-

ïåð³øíüîìó ÷àñ³ (am, is, are) òà ä³ºïðèêìåòíèêà òåïåð³øíüîãî ÷àñó

(Present Participle ) îñíîâíîãî ä³ºñëîâà. Present Participle óòâîðþºòü-

ñÿ äîäàâàííÿì çàê³í÷åííÿ -ing äî ³íô³í³òèâà îñíîâíîãî ä³ºñëîâà áåç

÷àñòêè to (V + -ing): read + -ing = reading, work + -ing = working.

Îðôîãðàô³÷í³ çì³íè ïðè äîäàâàíí³ -ing äî îñíîâè ä³ºñëîâà:

1) ßêùî ä³ºñëîâî çàê³í÷óºòüñÿ í³ìèì -å, òî ïåðåä çàê³í÷åííÿì -ing

âîíî âèïóñêàºòüñÿ: write  writing, take  taking.

2) Êîðîòêèé ãîëîñíèé çâóê + ê³íöåâèé ïðèãîëîñíèé = ê³íöåâèé

ïðèãîëîñíèé ïåðåä -ing ïîäâîþºòüñÿ: sit  sitting, put 

putting, swim  swimming, win  winning.

3) ³å  ó + -ing: lie  lying, tie  tying, die  dying.

Ó Present Continuous íå âæèâàþòüñÿ:

1) ä³ºñëîâà, ùî âèðàæàþòü âçàºìîçâÿçîê ì³æ ïðåäìåòàìè:

to be  áóòè, to have  ìàòè,

to consist  ñêëàäàòè(ñÿ), to depend  çàëåæàòè;

2) ä³ºñëîâà, ùî âèðàæàþòü â³ä÷óòòÿ:

to see  áà÷èòè, to hear  ÷óòè, to smell  íþõàòè;

3) ä³ºñëîâà, ùî âèðàæàþòü áàæàííÿ, ïî÷óòòÿ:

to want  õîò³òè, to wish  áàæàòè,

to love, to like  ëþáèòè, ïîäîáàòèñü, to hate  íåíàâèä³òè;

Dear Walter,

We are on vacation in New York City and we are having a good time.

New York is beautiful. The weather is hot and sunny.

football in the park.

I am in my aunt Martha and uncle Charlies flat. It is large and

beautiful. Aunt Martha is cooking dinner, and uncle Charlie is singing

and playing the guitar.

Cousin Tommy and cousing Gloria are not on vacation. They are

doing their homework in front of the TV. Their homework is not easy.

How is the weather in Los Angeles? Is it hot? What are you and your
