associated with the removal of the protective oxide
layer was observed. The incorporation of
an
environmental barrier coating (EBC) will be
required for extended engine life.
Testing of SiC/SiC CFCC combustor liners has
been most successful to-date. Over
2
1,000
hrs
of
engine testing had been accumulated by midJune,
at the Texaco (Bakersfield, California) and Malden
Mills (Lawrence, Massachusetts) test sites. The
engines with the SiC/SiC CFCC liners have shown
significant emissions reduction compared to the
all-metal engine. NOx and CO levels below
15
ppmv and
10
ppmv, respectively, have been
observed. The longest engine test with one set of
SiC/SiC CFCC liners with a protective EBC
system had accumulated 10,000
hrs
as
of mid-June
2000.
