Many sources speak of T3 as merely ‘local invasion’ but the originators of this staging system imply that
the local invasion should reach upto (but not into) neighbouring organs. In the absence of a well-defined
and standardised pTNM system, the application of this surgical TNM system by histopathologists is thus
questionable.
