Since the first edition of this atlas was published, many excellent refer-
ences have been written. The chapters on the placenta in the current texts
in surgical and pediatric pathology describe the microscopic pathology
and discuss some of the clinical implications of the gross processes than
previously. Several new monographs give significantly more detail. Indi-
viduals wishing to further pursue the original references will find them
cited in these works.
