thors bring readers to thought on voluntary occurrence of Northern
Azerbaijan in the structure of Russia.
In the Azerbaijan and Russian historiography of this time at the
estimation of Gulustan and Turkmenchay contracts the leading role of
Russia in violent division, both territory of Azerbaijan, and its people
is denied as well. Moreover, authors ascertain the distinction between
the reactionary aggressive aspirations of Russian tsarism and objec-
tively progressive role of Russia in the destiny of the Caucasian peo-
ple, in particular - the Azerbaijani people and wrongfully ennoble it.
Concerning the majority of questions of history of Azerbaijan-
Russian relations in the XVIII- early centuries, researchers showed
subjectivism and the prejudication to the facts. Selective adjustment of
the facts and their prejudiced interpretation makes deceptive impres-
sion about ostensibly sincere friendly mutual relations between the
Azerbaijan khans and Russia. According to the wrong conclusion of
the majority of authors, Russian orientation is made by them as the
powerful defining factor and is used as for the justification of the en-
try of Russian troops to Azerbaijan, and on the whole, for denial of
aggressive policy of imperial Russia in region.

stated historians both in historical science, and in history of studying
of Azerbaijan-Russian relations in the XVIII- early XIX centuries, it
should be noted, that they not only have paid attention on multias-
pected and many-sided nature of the specified relations, but also tried
to investigate them.
In the 60-80s of the XX century there was a huge scientific
manpower, in certain degree having finished the whole epoch in re-
search of Azerbaijan-Russian relations of the XVIII- early XIX centu-
ries. In the centre of our historiographic analysis there were the most
interesting works of the specified period, among which
A.A.Abdurahmanov, F.M.Aliyev, S.B.Ashurbeyli, V.G.Hajiyev,
G.B.Abdullayev, O.P.Markova, A.V.Fadeev, H.M.Ibrahimbeyli,
T.T.Mustafazadeh, G.N.Mammadova, J.M.Mustafaev and others’
works.
The rich source study base has allowed the authors to track
more deeply both political and economic mutual relations of Azerbai-
jan with Russia during the studied period. At this time appear the
works specially devoted to these or other aspects of the given problem
