9. Прийменник

Preposition

Прийменник — це службове слово, яке виражає відношення

одного члена речення до іншого. З назви бачимо, що це слова, які

стоять при іменнику, тобто перед ним (перед займенником,

числівником).

Як зазначалося, в англійській мові майже немає закінчень,

тому прийменники є засобом вираження відношення одного слова

до іншого. Певні з них виражають такі самі відмінкові відношен-

ня іменника або займенника з іншими словами, як і в українській

мові, але при перекладі опускаються, оскільки не мають

самостійного значення.

Родовий (кого? чого?) — of • the roof of the house

Давальний (кому? чому?) — to • write to a friend

Орудний (ким?) — by (чим? за допомогою чого?) — with

• the letter is signed by the manager with a fountain pen.

Прийменники, які мають самостійне лексичне значення,

поділяються на прийменники місця, руху, часу.
