DAM
The
earthf,i,llVlasina
dam
was
the f,irst
Yugosl;av
earth dam.
It closes
the head
storage
reseroir of the
hydroelectric
power
system V'lasina,
whioh,
in
four
stages,
utilizes the
total
gross
head
of
885 m
of the
rriver
Vlasina as well
as
of the Vrrla and
,its
tribu-
tani,es.
The
origi'nal swamps
of the
Vlasina, situated
fn the Vla-
sina
valley
hav,a
been trans-
formed in a'lake
by construc-
tion of
the Vlar;ina dam.
Vlasina reseruoir is
si,tuated
at
1200 m a.si"l.
lt oovers
an area of
16, sq.km. and
contains
107 nnill,ion
p3
o{
water. Crystalline
schists
form the
geological
struoture
of the basin.
The dam was
founded
on Paleozoic schists,
on
the layers of
river
deposlt
gern'posed
of sandy
clay,
gra-
vdl and weathered
micas-
chists
resipectively.
The body of the
da,m was
constructed
ol' ssrnp?,ctd
weathered
schists.
Water
tightening was ob,ta'ined
by
a
vertical impermeable core
of
well-oompacted fat clay.
In the centre of
the d,am,
itt
its foundation, on the
entire
length
of
the
profile,
there
was
constructed a
ga'llery
in
the
rock of sound
schists.
From this
inspection
gallery
a
concreter
grorut
curtafn rea-
ching
to tl-re depth of 40 m

tion of water discharges.

The
second stage, the Vrla
ll
hydroelectnic
power
statlon
has
a compensating reser-
voir which is c,losed
by a
rockfil,f
d:arm 112 rn high.
The
dam
'is
plac,ed

al'luv'ial
deposits.
The body of the
dam is constructed of schists.
lmpermeabi,liry has been
se-
cured
by means of
poured
asphalt
screen, 8 om th.ick,
which
is
protected
by con-
crete
:slabs.

station
has
an under-
ground
storage
reseruoir,
and
Vrla
l\/ hydroelectric
power
station
makes use
of the
enlargr#
headrace
canal. The
to,tal length
of the
collecting
canals
of the system

near-
ly 54
lkm, the length
of
tun-
nels

tocks 3.7
km.

Vlasina dam v.ras
