GETTING AROUND
Getting around in a foreign
country can be an adventure
in itself! Taxi and bus drivers.
do not always speak English, so
it is..essential to be able to give..
simple..directions. The words
and phrases in this chapter will....
help you get where you’re going.
Metro stations are easily identified by red
(M) signs and offer the best way to get
around. There are also public buses and
taxis.
In Russia, taxi fees are usually negotiated
with the driver ahead of time. Do not
accept rides in cabs that already have a
rider and in general travel by two.
It is not a good idea to accept a ride with
ordinary drivers as Russians traditionally
do. This works for Russians because they
speak the language and they know exactly
where they want to go.
Have a map or the address you want to
go to written down in Russian.
Remember to take a business card from
your hotel to give to the taxi driver on
your return.
Carry your ID with you at all times while
in Russia.
