INTERNATIONAL SCHOOLS
If you bring children with you to Portugal, you have to decide
whether you should send them to a private school with
instruction in English or a public school taught in Portuguese.
Younger children generally adapt more easily to a different
language of instruction than those who already have
attended an English-speaking school for several years.

Most international schools are in Portugal’s largest cities
Lisbon and Porto, as well as in the Algarve. If there is no
international school with instruction in English where you
are living, you may decide to send your children to a local
public or private school and arrange for English tutoring
on the side. You may even consider tutoring your children
in English yourself, as a last resort. Since prices vary from
school to school and according to the student’s age, it is
a good idea to contact several schools in your area to fi nd
out about prices and compare services. Below I have listed
