Appendix A summarizes the sounds and key pronunciation features of the
Spanish language, with abundant examples. Conjugations of common regular, stem-
changing, and irregular Spanish verbs constitute Appendix B. Appendix C is a glossary of
all grammatical terms used in the text, with examples. Appendix D is the answer key to the
Tome este examen self-tests.
Vocabularies.

Spanish-English and English-Spanish glossaries list all active, core
vocabulary introduced in the dialogues and the Amplíe su vocabulario and grammar
sections, as well as the passive vocabulary employed in the readings and the El mundo
hispánico section. The number following each entry indicates the lesson in which it first
appears.

The Student Activities Manual
To use this integral component of the ¡Hola, amigos! program to best advantage, it is
important that you understand its organization.
The Workbook section, which is bound into the back of this Worktext, offers a variety of
writing activities—sentence completion, matching, sentence transformation, and illustration-
based exercises—that provide further practice and reinforcement of concepts presented in the
textbook portion. Each lesson includes a crossword puzzle for vocabulary review and a reading
comprehension passage. Writing strategies and topics appear in each lesson to further writing
skills. An answer key for all written exercises is available at your instructor’s discretion.
The Laboratory Manual section opens with an Introduction to Spanish Sounds designed
to make learners aware of the differences between Spanish and English pronunciation. Each
regular lesson of the Laboratory Manual includes pronunciation, structure, listening- and
speaking practice, illustration-based listening comprehension, and dictation exercises to be
used in conjunction with the audio program.
The Workbook Activities
The Workbook Activities will help to develop your reading and writing skills by providing
practice in using the structures and vocabulary from the textbook. The activities in the Para
practicar section range from fill-ins and sentence completion to more complex tasks such as
writing original sentences and short paragraphs. A crossword puzzle in each lesson, with clues
in Spanish, offers a vocabulary control check and an opportunity to test your spelling abilities.
Each Workbook lesson includes a Para leer reading in which key lesson vocabulary and
structures reappear in a new context, followed by questions to check comprehension. Each
lesson includes a Para escribir writing task that presents a topic related to the theme of the
lesson and writing tips or strategies to help you develop your writing skills.
The Laboratory Activities
The Laboratory Activities, intended for use with the SAM Audio files for the Seventh Edition of
¡Hola, amigos!, emphasize listening and speaking skills. The following sections are included
for each textbook lesson.
Pronunciación: Words, phrases, and sentences that practice particular sounds or general
pronunciation and intonation are read with pauses for you to repeat what you hear.
Diálogos: The dialogues from the textbook lesson are read for you to pause and repeat.
Listen to the dialogues twice. During the first reading, you should listen carefully to the
