Now tell the class they are going to read about a zoo. Do
they know any zoos? What are they like? Pre-teach
the following words and phrases: demonstration, fall into
decline, in doubt, in need of repair, resident, uncertain. Give each

on page 63 and go
through it as a class. Now give each student a photocopy of
the article

on page 63.
Students read the article quickly and answer the questions.

Divide the class into A and B groups.Tell them they have
strong opinions about the future of the zoo:

to shut the zoo; Group B want to keep it open. Give each

dictionaries if necessary. They can add their own ideas.

Pre-teach some opinion expressions such as 'in my

OAt the end of the activity, tell students there is good news.
As a compromise, the council is going to build

animal-friendly zoo outside the town. The students are
going to plan it. Put them in groups of four to six. Give each
