a commando raid was launched against the SLN facility on the strategically
important Delft Island at the northern end of the Jaffna peninsula, while
in June the Sri Lankan authorities uncovered a plan to mount seaborne
attacks against Colombo.

When the SLN captured a “locally-modified
’giant’ boat” off point pedro in June 2007 it was discovered to be armed
with a Chinese-manufactured 14.5mm twin barrelled cannon and Japa-
nese-manufactured radar and outboard motors that were not usually sold
“without proper permission from a government”.

described initially as a sea mine but which the Sea Tigers later claimed was
