displaced rural population migrated to the frontier in search of land. This
resulted in massive deforestation in frontier areas (see Chapter 9).
In the fourth section, I describe the particulars of the agricultural growth
strategy in selected countries and in relation to different commodities.
However, first some words regarding land reform are needed.
ATTEMPTS AT LAND REFORM
Some kind of land reform has been implemented in most Latin American
