More than 10 years have passed since the last publication of the Swahili-Russian Dictionary in 1987. That's why there was an obvious necessity to compile a new dictionary which would reflect the development of both languages.
This Swahili-Russian dictionary is the attempt to create such a mode dictionary that will make easy the translation and teaching of Russian and Swahili. The dictionary contains about 20 000 vocabulary items from different fields of knowledge, such as economy, finance, politics, medicine, science and technology. It is based on Swahili-Russian dictionary, edited by Prof. E.N. Myachina, and has about 2 000 amendments and new words in comparison with the latter.
The author is grateful to his parents: V.M. Polikanov and E.A. Polikanova - for their help during his work at the dictionary and expresses his cordial gratitude to his teachers: N.T. Petrenko and the late N.V. Potekhina.
