Text. ABOUT MYSELF AND MY FAMILY
I’d like to tell you about my family and myself. First of all let me
introduce myself. My full name is Anna Sergiyivna Klymco. But surely nobody
addresses me this way. They call me Anna or Ann for short. I’m 17 years old. I
was born in Khmelnytsky, so I have been living in Khmelnytsky since my
childhood. I was born to a family of a doctor and a teacher.
Being a schoolleaver I had to make a choice of profession, that’s why now
I am a student of Khmelnytsky National University. I chose my faculty and my speciality
in accordance with my inclinations and I hope I’ve made the right choice.
I’m a busy person: I study at the University, so I have to do a lot of things
to be a good student; I try to be a good daughter, I have to do some work about the
house; I do my best to be a good friend, so I meet my friends as often as I can
possibly manage, we go to parties together or just for a walk once in a while.
Besides this I like traveling, especially by car; I enjoy walking in the forest,
picking mushrooms; I’m fond of dancing.
What I dislike is quarrelling with people; I dislike rude unbalanced
people; I dislike those who do not keep their promices, those who are not punctual.
That will do for all this, I think.

And now I’m going to tell you about my family. We are a family of five.
We live at 67, Soborna street, in Khmelnytsky.
To begin with I start talking first about my dad. His name is Sergiy
Petrovich, he is 45. He works as a surgeon in the town hospital. He is a very
sociable person, and he is always busy. Very often he works overtime. He is a
highly skilled specialist and has a world of thankful patients.
My Mum, very attractive-looking woman, is 43. Her name is Olga
Pavlivna. She teaches foreign literature at high school № 30. She is an experienced
teacher and the best Mamma in the world, I think.
My brother Maksym is six years younger than me. He is a boy of eleven.
He is at school, in the fifth form (grade). He has lessons every day except Sundays.
On Sundays he seems to think of nothing but football, and climbing, and eating,
and joking, and fighting. He is the noisiest boy I have ever known – and the nicest.

He does not care much for sitting at a desk and doing school work. Still, he is well-
meaning and intelligent boy who knows, that he ought to work hard at his lessons.
His cherished dream is to become a pilot and to fly a jet plane.
My best friend in the family is my Granny. She is retired on pension now
and manages our house. She is kind and gentle and also very understanding person,
I trust her all my top secrets and I love her dearly.
Besides, we have a lot of relatives. Very often my mother’s brother,
Heorhy by name, and his wife aunt Lidia come to visit us. They have two children.
They are our cousins and our parents’ nephew and niece. We like to spend our
family holidays together as uncle Ghora, as we call him, is fond of joking and
always good-humored. Their elder son Oleg has just successfully graduated from
one of the Kyiv Universities. He is getting married next month. So his wedding is
coming off very soon. Oleg’s parents will have a daughter-in-law and his wife will
have a mother-in-law and a father-in-law.

Text. THE ROYAL FAMILY
At present the British royal family is headed by Queen Elizabeth. When
the Queen was born on the 21-st of April 1926, her grandfather, King George V,
was on the throne and her uncle was his heir. The death of her grandfather and the
abdication of her uncle brought her father to the throne as King George VI.
As a child she studied constitutional history and law as well as art and
music. In addition she learned to ride and acquired her enthusiasm for horses. As
she grew older she began to take part in public life, making her first broadcast at
the age of 14.
The marriage of the young Princess Elizabeth to Philip, Duke of
Edinburgh took place in November 1947. She came to the throne after her father’s
death in 1952 and was crowned in Westminister Abbey in June 1953.
Among Queen Elizabeth’s many duties are the regular visits she makes to
foreign countries, and especially those of the Commonwealth, whose interests and
welfare are very important to her. The Queen has done much to signify the
formalities of the monarchy, including allowing the BBC to make a documentary
film about the every day of the royal family. She also started the tradition of the
“walkabout”. An informal feature of an otherwise formal royal visit, when she
walks among the public crowds and stops to talk to some people.
The annual Christmas broadcast made by the Queen on radio and
television has become a traditional and popular feature of the season, and there
were widespread celebrations and special programmes of events in 1977 to mark
her Silver Jubilee.
The Queen’s husband, Duke of Edinburgh, was born in 1926 and served
in the Royal Navy. He took a great deal of interest in industry, in the achievements
of young people (he founded Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme in 1956) and in
saving wild animals from extinction.
The Queen’s heir is Charles, Prince of Wales, who was born in 1948,
married Lady Diana Spencer and has two children, Prince William and Prince
Harry. The Prince of Wales is well-known as a keen promoter of British interests.

In recent years he has become outspoken on such controversial topics as
modern architecture, violence in films and on television, and standard of English

She was the most watched woman in the world – until tragedy happened
in Paris.
She was beautiful, of course; she was young, and she was royal. In the
shock of her death, the world struggled to know the contradictory sources’ of
Diana’s appeal; the Princess of Wales was both pop icon and the mother of kings, a

One December night, a long, long time ago, a family sat around the
fireplace in their home. A golden light from the fire filled the room. The mother
and father laughed at something their oldest daughter had just said. The girl was
seventeen, much older than her little brother and sister, who were only five and six
years old. A very old woman, the family’s grandmother, sat knitting in the warmest
corner of the room. And a baby, the youngest child, smiled at the fire’s light from
its tiny bed.
This family had found happiness in the worst place in all of New England.
They had built their home high up in the White Mountains, where the wind blows
violently all year long. The family lived in an especially cold and dangerous spot.

Gillian Anderson was raised in London from the age of two, but her
family decided to move back to the States just as she was entering those formative
teen years. They landed in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where her English accent
immediately made her the subject of ridicule. Either out of anger at the move or
just general teenage angst, Anderson rebelled. The rebellion spilled over to high
school, where she was a notorious hellcat; she was even arrested while trying to
glue the school’s doors shut days before her graduation. Anderson got a hint of her
fame to come in her high school’s hall of fame when she was voted Class Clown,
Most Bizarre Girl, and Most Likely To Go Bald.

beer commercial and his current role, was paved with film roles in The Rapture,
Kalifornia, Chaplin, Working Girl, and Beethoven (the canine, not the compo-
ser). Not to mention his ongoing stint as narrator of Showtime’s soft-core antho-
logy, the Red Shoe Diaries.
Born in Manhattan in I960, Duchovny is a hybrid with a Russian Jewish
father and Scottish mother, perhaps accounting somewhat for his understated sense
of humor (not unlike Mulder’s) and Hebraic sense of irony.
Today, Duchovny divides his time between a beach house in Malibu and a
sublet in Vancouver, where he works fourteen hour days, five days a week, during
