On model of embryonic stem cells (ESC) of the mouse the functions of not studied before a human gene pub (hpub) were
investigated. Hpub has homology with recently characterized murine gene pub, and is highly expressed in a HIV-associated lympho-
mas. Proliferative activity of ESC, transfected by a gene hpub, did not change. At the same time, at transition of genetically modified
ESC to a spontaneous differentiation in vitro the gene hpub rendered an inducing effect both on formation of embryoid bodies, and on
occurrence of reduced clusters of cells (cardiomyocytes). The inhibition of ESC differentiation on neuronal pathway was simultane-
ously observed. Thus, ectopic expression of hpub noticeably influenced on character of the various initial stages of the differentiation
spontaneously occurring in ESC of the mouse in vitro.
Keywords: embryonic stem cells, gene hpub, transfection, transcription, differentiation.
