The Absent-Minded Professor
Professor Black of Oxford was very absent-minded. Once he went to visit his friend who lived not
far from college. They had dinner and then talked. Black was a great talker. Midnight came, then one
o'clock, two o'clock and still Black went on talking though his friend was feeling very tired and often
looked at the clock. He did not want to be impolite, but at last he said, "Black, my dear fellow, I hate to
put you out, but I have a class at 9 o'clock tomorrow, and I must get to bed." "Good heavens," said Black,
looking confused. "I thought you were at my house."
