Irish is a Celtic language, closely related to Gaelic

and Manx, and, as the official language of the

Republic of Ireland is taught in schools

throughout the country, thus playing an important

part in the revival of Irish culture.

This course has been divided into three parts.

Part I covers the alphabet and pronunciation and the

problems of spelling. Part II is a series of twenty-

seven graded lessons, each one covering a

particular aspect of the grammar. Part III contains the

keys to the exercises which are to be found in each

of the lessons, while at the end of the book are verb

lists and a vocabulary.

Whereas I have striven to reproduce accurately, the

appearance and format of the original, in some cases I have

been forced to use a very different character font from the

original. This is particularly the case when trying to

uniformly represent the IPA phonetic symbols.

The Font set I have used here is predominantly Arial, but

for some of the characters I have had to use Monaco.
