(v.t.)
As
polling
has demonstrated, there is confidence in the
wider
community
and
markets
will
continue to reflect this confidence in the current government and
their
reforms.
This
editor has
observed
national
division
around
this issue
widen.
The
press
is
divided
and individuals
have
strong opinions concerning
who
has the right to
apply
to
live
in their
country.
The
fact is illegal immigrants are queuejumpers.
Diplomatic representation in countries of origin,
which
support the
international coalition of nationsis the
proper
procedure
to
follow.
Additionally,
many
of the claimants are not actually refugees and are
merely
seeking
to short
cut an established
process.
Bias indicates looking at something in a way that is one-sided or prejudiced in its
presentation, Bias is an opinion disguised as fact.
Despite
the current
commotion
raised
by a small
minority
surrounding
the
government's
policies
concerning illegalimmigrants, thankfully, there is a
wiser,
more
financial
view.
The Financial

The
cost
burden
of
processing
illegal
immigrants
has and is
becoming
an
increasing encumbrance
upon
the taxpayers of this
country.
The
government's
sensible
border
protection policies, although lifting the defence budget
considerably
and creating a temporary budget deficit, are
preferable.
Engaging
in
border
protection
will
prove
a deterrent to other illegal immigrants and
discourage
people
smugglers.
This
country
could
ill
afford
an influx of the magnitude that other less prudent
\policies might
give
riseto.
The
continuous assailment
upon
the government and
entreaties
from
a
few
bleeding
hearts to alter these
policies
is not
viable.
Financial
markets
have
responded
strongly to the government's stance in a
positive
way.

The
editor of this
newspaper
recalls
the 70s
when
the
Vietnam
War
necessitated
an
exodus
from
some
regions
of that
country
via
similarly
dangerous
means
as
that of the current
people
fleeing
war-torn
countries.
Leaking
boats
were
rescued
bythe
military
(which
currently
hasquitea different
agenda)
from
the seas
nearby
our
shores,
humanitarian
care
was
taken
with
these
asylum
seekers
and
processing
oftheir
claims
for
refugee
status
was
carried
out efficiently and
quickly.
Not
so
today.
This
government has gone so far as to engage the
military
to
'guard' our
shores
in a so-called 'border protection
policy'
and to send ships
(even
leaking)
loaded
down
with
people
onwards,
rather than
allowing
them to
pursue
the
avenues
that
should
be open to them.
Worse,
still, if they do get 20
onshore,
the
processing
times for their
claims
for
refugee
status
have
taken
years!
The
asylum
seekers are being interned, they are kept in
camps
in hostile
environments
with
little or no stimulation.
Additionally,
children
are
housed
with adults without schooling or entertainment.
This
is
rapidly
becoming
a
human
rightsissue andis a sad indictmentofour government
which
is heartless 25
at the
very
least and racist at its
worst.

Stranded refugees lose again
...
It is unfortunate, if not
downright
illegal
when
a country
assumes
a position
outside international and
United
Nations
determinations.
Today,
another
boatloadofdesperate
people
has been
towed
out of
waters
nearourshores.
This
country has created a tarnished reputation foritself with
regard
to the handling
and treatment of refugees attempting to enter the country via boats.
Asylum
seekers are
referred
to bythe current government as 'illegal immigrants'
which
is
ridiculous
andincorrectas one cannot be an immigrant
when
oneis a
refugee.
Additionally,
this government mostdefinitely appears to
have
as an agenda,the
elimination of participation in
policies
which
allow
new
people
into the country
via
any
means
other than
visa
application.
