Text 1: Bangkok
ferries
Introduction
The
problems
with
the traffic in
Bangkok
are that the
roads
are
crowded,
the
river
is congested by both private and
public
transport, there is pollution, not
enough
public
boats
and those
provided
are not
regular.
So
by
closing
the
river
between
the
hours
of
7:30am
and
5:30pm
to private boats and onlyopening the
river
for use byferries and
express
boats
we
will
hopefully
increasethe
number
of people
using
public
transport on the
rivers
and
reduce
traffic on the
roads.
Our
overall
plan
for the
river
is to extend a smallsection to increase tourism,
and
have
fast
express
boats for the early
morning
and after
work
commuters
into
the
Central
Business
District.
We
hopeby
doing
this
we
can decrease
road
traffic
problems
and pollution.

Our
display

the
new
river
has been
proposed
to be extended
and ofthe
bypass
walkways
which
will
connectto tourist attractions
such
as the
new
Botanical
Gardens,
the
Zoo
etc.
Our
express
boats
will
have
a red stripe
across
them to indicate that they are
. express.
Our
tourist ferries
will
have
a
yellow
stripe and our all-stop boats
will
. ·:>be.green
....
rieswill
have
such
facilities as bathrooms, cafes and newsagents.
The
'all
express
will
also
have
light snack
bars.
The
tourist fares are cheap-costing $10 for a
family
of 4 for an all day
pass;
$5 single; $4 concession; and smallfees for one or two stops, or return tickets.
The
tourist ferries are
wseat
100-150
people,
the
express
50-70 and the all-
stops 80-120 people.
Text 2: Capital punishment: right or wrong?
Capital
punishment is the execution of a
criminal
under
a death sentence
imposed
by a qualified
public
authority. But one question for those of
some
faiths and those
who
live
in
modern,
civilised society is, is capital punishment
right or
wrong?
Capital
punishment is an ancient practice, and existed in the ancient
middle
5
eastern
kingdoms.
The
death penalty
was
usually
for
murder,
and
some
religious
or
sexual
offences. In Israel it
was
declared that
'whoever
sheds the
blood
of a
man,
by
man
shall his
blood
be shed'
(Gen.
9.6).
It
is also said
'If
injury
,
.ensures,
you
shall give life for
life,
eye for eye, tooth for tooth,
hand
for hand'
(Ex.
21.23-24). It
was
understood that this principle of
revenge
was
to stop 10
offenders
by
excessive
punishments.
When
the death penalty
was
given
in these
ancient times it
was
by stoning, hanging, beheading, strangling, and burning.
. In
pdmj,tjve
times death and mutilation
were
frequent penalties.
Capital
punishment has a long history, but is it too old fashioned to be
used
in today's
society?
Are
prison
cells
overflowing
and are there too
many
crimes
being
15
':c9mmitted?
And
if they are, is that
reason
enough
to
kill
people?
Is capital
punishment the
way
to fix our
modern
day
problems
about
murder,
crime
etc?
These
are
some
of the questions at stake.

The
timetable for the ferries
will
be posted
clearly
at each station.
The
express
will
come
every15 minutes, the all-stop
every
20 minutes and the tourist
every
30 minutes.
There
will
be a total of 15
express
boats, eight tourist ferries and
12 all-stops.
