Paleontology: the record of life

ISBN 0-471-84528-0
This book is designed as a textbook for a first course in paleontology. Many students in such classes
are geology majors, but majors in biology and other sciences also attend die courses we teach. We have written the book for a typical student of an elementary paleontology course who has a general science education up to the college level but little knowledge of geology and a high school preparation in biology. A short chapter on the geological time scale is included for students with no preparation in earth sciences. To make the text attractive to a wide range of students, we have not stressed classification and used as few technical terms as possible in describing the parts of organisms. We believe it is more important for the student to know how the organism lived than the names of its parts.
