Gnaser H. Low-Energy Ion Irradiation of Solid Surfaces
Springer, Berlin, 1999, pages: 293

The book presents an overview on important aspects of ion irradiation of surfaces, emphasizing low impact energies. Specifically, ion penetration and implantation into solids, defect creation and amorphization of semiconductors, sputtering of elemental and multicomponent targets, and ionization processes of emitted species are discussed. It provides a synoptic view of these phenomena which are strongly interrelated by the same basic processes, but are often described separately and in diverging terminology. The book tries to bridge this gap, summarizing results from experiments, computer simulations and theoretical approaches.

Cambridge University Press, 2010, 757 pages For the first time, this book unites the theory, experimental techniques and computational tools used to describe the diffusion of atoms, molecules and nanoparticles across metal surfaces. Starting with an outline of the formalism that describes diffusion on surfaces, the authors guide the reader through the principles of atomic movement, before moving on to diffusion under special circumstances, suc...

Oxford Book Company, 2009, ISBN: 9380179073, 286 pages Solid-state physics, the largest branch of condensed matter physics, is the study of rigid matter, or solids, through methods such as quantum mechanics, crystallography, electromagnetism and metallurgy. Solid-state physics considers how the large-scale properties of solid materials result from their atomic-scale properties. Solid-state physics thus forms the theoretical basis of materials...

Wiley, 2010, 281 pages, ISBN: 0470721359, 047071039X Mechanics and Physics of Porous Solids addresses the mechanics and physics of deformable porous materials whose porous space is filled by one or several fluid mixtures interacting with the solid matrix. Coussy uses the language of thermodynamics to frame the discussion of this topic and bridge the gap between physicists and engineers, and organises the material in such a way that individual...

Article. Progress in Materials Science 47 (2002) 1-161 Abstract: Laser nitriding can be described as the irradiation of metal surfaces by short laser pulses in nitrogen containing atmospheres. This may lead to a strong take-up of nitrogen into the metal and nitride formation which can improve the metal's surface properties, e.g. the hardness or the corrosion and wear resistance. Here, the laser nitriding of iron, carbon steel, stainless steel, an...

Cambridge University Press, 1997, 309 pages This book is an introduction to the application of computer simulation and theory in the study of the interaction of energetic particles (1 ev to the MeV range) with solid surfaces. The authors describe methods that are applicable both to hard collisions between nuclear cores of atoms down to soft interactions, where chemical effects or long-range forces dominate. The range of potential applications o...
