This report, in support of the Ballistics for Future Systems
program, analyzes the improvement in tank cannon hit probability to
be gained by increasing the muzzle velocity. It finds negligible
improvement in hit probability against a stationary target but
significant improvement in hit probability against a moving target.
It also compares the effect of improving the fire control with
increasing the muzzle velocity. Doubling the muzzle velocity
appears superior to a first order predictor but inferior to a
second order predictor.
