Biju-duval B. Sedimentary geology. Sedimentary Basins. Depositional Environments. Petroleum Formation
Editions Technip, France, 2002, p. 642
As this book is intended for engineering students in geology and geophysics, drillers, producers, and economists, it voluntarily leaves out certain aspects of geology such as mineralogy, the geology of crystalline basements, and metamorphism. It essentially deals with sedimentary geology and was designed as a teaching support with an emphasis on the basics and language used in the profession.
It is based on geological observations on different scales, and is largely illustrated from field observation and analysis. The illustrations were prepared from my own experience and draw many examples from studies conducted in the framework of research projects at the Institut francais du petrole (IFP) and in the petroleum exploration work mentioned in the references.

Contents
Basics of dynamic geology
Continental and oceanic basins
Sedimentary driving mechanisms and environments
Time evolution: sedimentary sequences, stratigraphy

4 edition, Pearson Prentice Hall, 2006, 662 pages A concise treatment of the fundamental principles of sedimentology and stratigraphy, featuring the important physical, chemical, biological and stratigraphic characteristics of sedimentary rocks. Emphasized are the ways in which the study of sedimentary rocks is used to interpret depositional environments, changes in ancient sea level, and other intriguing aspects of Earth history. Topics includ...

Blackwell Publishing Ltd, 2003, 649 pages Diagenesis affects all sediments after their deposition and includes a fundamental suite of physical, chemical and biological processes that control the texture, mineralogy and fluid-flow properties of sedimentary rocks. Understanding the processes and products of diagenesis is thus a critical component in the analysis of the evolution of sedimentary basins, and has practical implications for subsurface...

Elsevier, 2006, p. 375 Sequence stratigraphy analyzes the sedimentary response to changes in base level, and the depositional trends that emerge from the interplay of accommodation (space available for sediments to fill) and sedimentation. Sequence stratigraphy has tremendous potential to decipher the Earth’s geological record of local to global changes, and to improve the predictive aspect of economic exploration and production. For these reaso...

Springer-Verlag, 1992, p. 628 This book addresses both qualitative and quantitative aspects of basin analysis, including topics such as various flux rates, diagenesis, and fluid flow, in the context of plate tectonics and sedimentary geology. Tectonic subsidence and uplift are prerequisites for basin formation and terrigenous sediment supply, but sedimentary processes in a basin are governed by other factors, including water circulation and recy...

A John Wiley & Sons, Ltd. , Publication 2009, 432 pages This book has been written for students who are studying geology at university and it is intended to provide them with an introduction to sedimentology and stratigraphy. It is hoped that the text is accessible to those who are completely new to the subject and that it will also provide a background in concepts and terminology used in more advanced work. Introduction: sedimentology and...

Springer; 2003, Pages: 821 More than 75% of the earth's land surface is covered by sediments and sedimentary rocks. Near-surface sediments constitute the reservoirs for almost all groundwater, and are vitally important substrates for soils, wetlands, and shallow marine environments, while more deeply buried sediments provide most of the world's reserves of fossil fuels. The study and understanding of sediments and sedimentary rocks is therefor...

Cambridge University Press - 2009, 612 pages This book emphasizes the properties of sedimentary rocks rather than sedimentary processes. Thus, it focuses on description and discussion of mineralogic and chemical composition, as well as the textures and sedimentary structures that characterize sedimentary rocks. Further, it discusses application of insights derived from study of rock properties to interpretation of their origin, including provena...

Society for Sedimentary Geology, Tulsa, Oklahoma 74235, U.S.A. , 2005, p. 208 Sedimentology and stratigraphy are neighbors yet distinctly separate entities within the earth sciences. Put in a nutshell, sedimentology searches for the common traits of sedimentary rocks regardless of age as it reconstructs environments and processes of deposition and erosion from the sediment record. Stratigraphy, by contrast, concentrates on changes with time, on...

Academic Press, 2 edition, 2000, 523 Pages, ISBN: 0126363757. There are three types of rock-igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary. Sedimentary rocks form from the weathering, erosion, transportation and deposition of older rocks. Applied Sedimentology describes the formation, transportation and deposition of sediment, and the post-depositional processes that change soft sediment into sedimentary rock. Sedimentary rocks include sandstones, limest...
